Artist Statement

Function and beauty are two cooperative values I work in as an artist. My fascination lies in the interaction of the four natural elements working in harmony with one another throughout the entire creative ceramics process. I was raised to be passionate about nature, so when my hands are in clay, it grounds me and reminds me that I am apart of it, too. When incorporating a natural element into a design in my functional ware I strive to encapsulate its organic beauty. Forms with movement and color are the representations by which this is possible. As mankind continues to grow apart from nature, I bridge that disconnect through my work to draw us back to our roots. Unlike one-use plastics, ceramic works can be used in the home forever simultaneously brightening one's space. Pottery surrounds us daily and I believe that it is one of the most intimate forms of art that can be made due to its functionality.
